Hey, Chilofans! It's a beautiful Thursday morning here in Berkeley, and we're basking in the afterglow of our first fundraising brunch event at The Revival Bar + Kitchen in Berkeley. We had a great turnaround, an amazing presentation by Lawrence, and our first active display of the maquette. Thanks to all of you who attended and donated, and hope you had a great time. We look forward to seeing you again, hopefully at our May 12th dance party at Metro Lighting?! Grab some early bird tickets for you and your friends, and we promise you'll have fun!
With that out of the way, it's time to highlight another of the Chilopod members. She's been with us from the beginning, and she is our recruiting, proofreading, editing extraordinaire. Here's Lady Tee in her own words:
I have seen each attendance at Burning Man as an opportunity to enrich and expand my personal involvement in the experience. And for me, my attendance has always been completely and utterly wrapped up with the art. In the morning, I take my bike and head down a radial spoke towards the Playa. As I hit the broad expanse of the desert, peopled with large and magical creations, my heart swells and then bursts, often accompanied by a shout or a whoop. Much of the thrill lies knowing in that human beings created all of this, and it is a magical result to be sure! It restores my faith in humanity by making me fully realize the incredible gifts we all have in our hearts and minds and bodies, just waiting to be brought forth. When I got the opportunity in 2017 to volunteer with the build of the Tree of Tenere, I was bitten by the bug of direct involvement. Imagine my excitement, then, when I learned that my beloved camp member Lawrence Grown was off and running in a project of great excitement: the Chilopod! How can I begin to describe how I feel? Although I am not an artist, the opportunity to be with people who really know their craft and who are equally excited and committed to bringing the Chilopod to life is one of the most enriching experiences of my life. I am learning every day and getting new skills along the way, making new friends, and accomplishing something of worth and value.
Amazing, right? If you want to meet Lady Tee, Lawrence, or any of our fun members, come visit us at one of our weekly meetings on Sunday at 1 PM, in good old Berkeley.
